Shadow

by Sarah Brindell (Piece of Mind; 2003)

He is a boy, who
counted limitations in the living room
He dug a hole in the bed
and painted smoky words upon the moon
Then one day he ran far from what he knew
He left his family to find a different way
from what they do
and he pleaded with time
he said “free the shadow,
the shadow on my mind”
He found a place to call his own
a haven from the cold
and with a pen in his hand
revelation began
In a fit of silent rage
the moon blew his words back on the page
all night long it gave his pain
a method to shine through
and he pleaded with time
he said “free the shadow,
the shadow on my mind”

Candlelit lights in my eyes, as shadows dance on the wall, calls me into deep thought process, wishing that I could stall, but oh no, inhibition, in the form of storm clouds glisten, blocks my third eye’s vision. Is it a figment of my imagination, shadows waiting up ahead, got me treading lightly over egg shells when the shadow casts a spell, but I intend well, so I said, “Tell me something I haven’t heard, and I can learn from my shadow instead of battling my image blurred.” 2001 the year the sun cleared a path through the clouds to shine down on the world as we twirl in space, the shadows erase while we twirl in space, the shadows erase, the shadows erase…
